Television Sports Broadcaster. A sports director for seven years at television stations in Deleware and later Florida, he was hired in 1979 to become an anchor at the new 24-hour sports cable network, ESPN. He became one of the original lead anchors of "Sports Center" and later did play-by-play commentary for National Hockey League games on ESPN2 from the time it debuted in 1993. He drowned in a neighbor's pool when, though he could not swim, reportedly tried to save his eight-year-old daughter.
