According to census records, Jonathan Bridges was born about 1814 in South Carolina. Jonathan's first wife was Mary (or Sarah) Huldah McDonald. They migrated from South Carolina to what was then Murray County Georgia around 1845, settling near the town of Rocky Face. Jonathan and Huldah had the following children:

Mary C (Bridges) Babb, 1840-1903
William Lewis Bridges (1841-1911)
John Wesley Bridges, 1845-1930
Matilda Jane (Bridges) Wood, Abt. 1847-??
James M Bridges, 1852-1923,
Harrison A Bridges, 1856-1925

Jonathan's first wife likely died shortly after the birth of Harrison. Jonathan then appears to have married Elizabeth (Yarborough) Sisk, the widow of Issac Sisk with three children from her previous marriage. They continued to live near Rocky Face and Tunnel Hill in Whitfield County, Georgia. Jonathan and Elizabeth had the following three children:

Jeremiah Bridges, Abt. 1859-??
Judah S (Bridges) Lowery, 1861-1963
Elizabeth A (Bridges) Crawford, 1868-1902

No death or burial record has been located for Jonathan. He is last found on the 1870 census so it appears he died in Whitfield County between 1870 and 1880. His wife Elizabeth continued to live in the area until her death in 1909. She is buried in the Dunagan Cemetery in Rocky Face. Many of Jonathan's descendants continue to live in the Whitfield County area to this day.

This Jonathan Bridges should not be confused with the Jonathan Bridges, son of Thomas Bridges, who died in Missouri in 1880. They are most definitely two different people. No documentation has been located to identify Jonathan's parents. Any information regarding Jonathan's parents, death, or burial would be much appreciated.
