English Nobility. 3rd Earl of Suffolk. At age nine he was married to Elizabeth Mowbray, daughter of the Duke of Norfolk, and they eventually had three daughters. With his father, Michael De La Pole, he brought 40 men-at-arms and 120 archers to Henry V's French campaign in 1415. The elder Michael died during the Siege of Harfleur and his son succeeded him as the 3rd Earl of Suffolk. He held the title for only five weeks before he was killed at Agincourt. De La Pole and the Duke of York were the highest-ranking English casualties of that battle; their bodies were boiled so their bones could be returned to England. Shakespeare romanticized their deaths in his play "Henry V" (Act IV, Scene VI).
