EL NORA JONES
Ell "Nora" was a daughter of Tennessee natives, George Washinton Jones (1860-1903) and his second wife Martha Forrest Carroll (1870-1926). "Nora" removed to Ohio in 1926, married Glen Clark Halliwell 18 Aug 1927 and was widowed on 8 Jul 1929.

She was a resident of Barberton, Summit Co., Ohio from 1926 to 1979, (R.F.D. 4; Box 107, at the time of her marriage). The Akron Area City directory listed the couple as residents of 201 Ira Avenue. Nora never remarried, nor had children. She resided with her half-brother, James Allen Jones, and his family on 31st Street (SR 21), near Clinton, Summit Co., Ohio immediately upon Glen's death. In 1934, she took a Second Street apartment in Barberton after James died, and purchased a home situated at 169 31st Street N.W., Barberton prior to 1951.

She was a long-time employee of the Seiberling Latex Company in Barberton, Ohio who manufactured products such as Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs latex figures in 1938. Seiberling Latex (Rubber) Company was started in 1921 by the founders of Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Frank and Charles Seiberling, and closed in 1980. It was located in the former Portage Rubber Company buildings on the north side of the Erie Railroad tracks.

On the morning of 28 Mar 1979, Nora was discovered lying on the floor in a pool of blood by her neighbor. She was transported to Barberton Citizen's hospital by way of ambulance. Nora passed on Mon, 2 Apr at 1:45 a.m. aged 85y 1m 8d.

Barberton - Nora Halliwell, 85, of 169 31st St., N.W., died April 2 at (Barberton) Citizens Hospital. Born (25 Feb 1894) in Dickson County, Tennessee, she was a resident of Barberton for the past fifty years. She was employed at the Seiberling Latex Company for twenty-five years as a molder, retiring twenty years ago. She is survived by stepsons, George of Wadsworth, and Robert of Rittman; stepdaughters, Mrs. Helen Weaver of Cleveland, and Mary Alice Bragg of Akron; sister, Mrs. Irene McGowan of Necedah, Wisconsin; nephews, George and Ralph Jones, of Van Nuys, California, Williard Jones of Utica, New York, and Robert Larry Jones of Rittman; niece, Mrs. Mary Rose Kemmer of Crossville, Tennessee, sixteen step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Hahn Funeral Home, with Rev. Fred Harrold officiating. Interment Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening. Nora was interred along side her half-brother, James Allen Jones, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Section M, Lot 245, Grave five. Her monument is a flat bronze marker inscribed as follows: Nora Jones Halliwell, 1894-1979. A beautiful rose motif gracefully surrounds the inscription and the dates are separated by a lovely dove. Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery is located in Coventry Township, at 2580 Romig Road, Akron, Summit County, Ohio 44320. On the west side of Romig Road, north of Interstate 76 and south of Instate 77 and Akron-Wadsworth Road, minutes from Rolling Acres Mall, Cemetery telephone 330-745-4515. Nora's sister Irene McGowan occupied Nora's home and upon her death, forwarded many of Nora's personal affects to her niece Rose Mary (Jones) Kemmer, daughter of James Allen Jones, who then forwarded the said to Laurie Casto-Halliwell in 2002. Irene relocated to Nashville, Tennessee upon the sale of Nora's home.

George Washington Jones Sr. (1860-1903) was a life-time resident of TN. He married (1) c1882 in TN, Emma Wick. She was a native of TN and died c1889.

George and Emma had four children:
1. Louis Washington Jones was born on 2 Aug 1883 in TN.

2. James Allen Jones was born on 16 Nov 1886 in Cheatham Co., TN, and died 2 Aug 1934 near Clinton, Summit Co., Ohio. He was buried in Greenlawn Memorial Park. James married Inez Rebecca Rosenbum.

3. An child was born in 1889 in TN, and died in infancy.

George Washington Jones Sr. married (2) Martha Forrest Carroll c1892. Martha was born in 1870, and died in 1926. George and Martha had four children:
