Clifford R. Roberts, age 90 of Onaway, Michigan, died June 3, 2009 at Hancock Haven Adult Foster Care Home in Cheboygan.

Cliff Roberts was born in Onaway on October 16, 1918 to Oscar A. and Maybell (Fairman) Roberts. On October 11, 1942 he was married to the late Idamae Lorenz. He was remarried on December 28, 1996 to Florence (Smith) Webster at the Onaway United Methodist Church.

Cliff's first teaching job was at a country school in rural Onaway. He then taught in Rapid River and Escanaba. In 1952, Cliff went to Alpena to teach. At the time of his retirement in 1977, he was the audio-visual administrator for Alpena Public Schools and the director of the Besser Planetarium. After retiring, Cliff and Idamae moved back to Onaway and live on the banks on the Black River.

Cliff proudly served his country stateside in the United States Air Force from 1942-1945 during the Second World War. He was very active in the community. Cliff was a member of the Onaway United Methodist Church and Choir, the Community Choir, Onaway High School Alumni Association, Friends of the Library, the Cheboygan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. Since 1996, Cliff has been a volunteer for Hospice of the Straits.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Florence Roberts of Black Lake; sons, Bruce (Karen) Roberts of Monument, Colorado, Paul Roberts of Alpena, and Dale (Jeanine) Roberts of Temperance; daughter, Ann (Dan) Glawe of Alpena; 7 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; step-sons, Dave (Linda) Webster of Black Lake and Steven Webster of Cheboygan; step-daughter, Diane (Tom) Thompson of Elk Rapids; 6 step-grandchildren; brother, Arden (Jean) Roberts of Warren; and many nieces and nephews.

Clifford was preceded in death by his wife, Idamae Roberts in 1994 after 52 years of marriage; brothers, Homer, Earl, and Clarence; and sisters, Vera Hayner and Ruth Schmidt.
