PIONEER CALLED Funeral services were held at Glenwood, Wednesday, Nov. 4, for Emily Jane Murray, pioneer and resident of Glenwood country for half a century, with Rev. E.W. McAbee of White Salmon in charge. Mrs. Murray passed away Tuesday morning Nov. 3rd at the home of her daughter, Miss Nora Murray, culminating an illness of some two months in which after a stroke of paralysis, she sank steadily lower until release came. She was in her eighty-second year at the time of her death. Mrs. Murray was born Sep. 9th, 1849 at Stewardsville, Missouri and while still quite young she made the long pioneer trek to the West Country, and in 1866 was married to James Murray at Willamina, Oregon. Fifty years ago she moved with her family to the Panakanic and continuously since that time has made her home in the Glenwood country. Seven children were born to this union, one dying in infancy and two sons preceding the mother in death by just a few years. The husband, Mr. James Murray, passed away six years ago. Remaining to mourn the going of the mother are three daughters, Mrs. Martha Dymond, of Laurel, Wash.; Mrs. Nora Murray of Glenwood, Wn.; and Mrs. Della Hylton of Mulino, Ore.,; and also one son, Mr. Ed Murray of Glenwood, Wn. Besides them, there are ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. To all these in their bereavement the sympathy and kind regard of a host of acquaintances and friends is extended.
