In 1822 they move to Parke County, IN, with his parents and may have lived near Portland Mills on part of the land his father purchased that year. Prior to 1840 they move to Clinton Township in Putnam County where he bought 40 acres in the south part of the township and south east of Portland Mills.
In 1834 Peter united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in IN and was later a licensed to preach. In 1847 he moved to Somerset Township, Mercer County, MO where he joined the Missouri Conference of the church.
