Relatives and friends here were greatly shocked last Friday afternoon to hear of the sudden death of one of our townsmen, William Stethem. Mr. Stethem had been in poor health for several months and had gone to Hastings Friday to consult a physician. Following a medical examination, he and his daughter, Mrs. Molly Meester, had just entered the Kresge vairty (sic) store and were seated at the refreshment counter when he was stricken with a heart attack arid death ensued almost immediately.

Mr. Stethem was born in Ohio in 1856 and came to this community 58 years ago. He homesteaded on a farm 4 miles southeast of Pauline and resided their continuously until 15 years ago when he and his wife retired and moved to Pauline. Mrs. Stethem passed away about five years ago. The past year Mr. Stethem has lived with his brother, John, here in the village.
