Elizabeth (Jackson) Ricketts was the daughter of Jacob Jackson and Elizabeth Poling, natives of Maryland. She was one of eleven children born and raised in Perry County, Ohio: Margaret (Jackson) Miller, Samuel Jackson, Sarah Jackson (d.y.), Elizabeth (Jackson) Ricketts, Sophia (Jackson) Frazee, Joseph Jackson, Mary (Jackson) Frazee, Israel Jackson, Sarah Ann (Jackson) Swiers, Rachel Jackson (d.y.) and John Fletcher Jackson. Their parents left Ohio to settle in Van Buren County, Ohio in 1841; many of their children moved with them.
Elizabeth married Joshua Ricketts, the son of Ignatius Ricketts and Margaret Poling. Joshua was a native of Randolph County, Virginia. Elizabeth and Joshua were married in Perry County, Ohio July 26, 1831. They were the parents of eight children: Margaret Ricketts, Sarah Elizabeth Ricketts, Lavinia Ricketts, James M Ricketts, Mary Melvina Ricketts, Justis Ricketts, Jacob Jackson Ricketts and Catherine Matilda Ricketts. Joshua and Elizabeth farmed in Perry County, Ohio, Van Buren County, Iowa, Davis County, Iowa, and then, returned to farm in
Van Buren County. Elizabeth died in Keokuk County, Iowa at the age of eighty-two years.
