Ira was a farmer and drover. They owned property in four WV counties. They moved in 1878 to a fine brick mansion which became known as Templemoor. The home stands today (1987) on the west side of WV Route 20, south of Craig Moor, Harrison Co., WV. By 1879 Ira was a member of the House of Delegates in WV and was spending a lot of time in Wheeling, WV where he was busy with the cares of state. He served as a delegate as late as 1885.

Florence helped organize a local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution which was named for her great grandfather, Daniel Davisson, who was a major in the militia taking part in the American Revolution.
