A Service of Tribute and Love was held at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens with Pastor Ernie Mathes officiating. Private family cremation was held at Eternal Hills Crematory.
David was born on June 15, 1947, in Springfield, Ill., to Ethel Hawkins and Herbert M. Cockrell. He grew up in Illinois, Missouri and Arizona before graduating from Long Beach High School in California. He then entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served for more than 33 and a half years.
On Aug. 12, 1979, he married Kathleen Pryer in Springfield. They have two sons, Patrick and Charles, and two daughters, Shawna and Lynnette. In December 2000, David retired from Kingsley Field and has remained in the Klamath Basin since. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1383.
He enjoyed being with his family, especially shooting with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed listening to country music and watching Glenn Beck.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of Klamath Falls; sons, Patrick of Klamath Falls and Charles of Denver, Colo.; daughters and sons-in-law, Shawna and Steve Mogensen of Keenesberg, Colo., and Lynnette and Ronald Jackson Sr. of Springfield; sisters, Sylvia Poynter of Sun City, Ariz., Marilyn Glaze of Springfield, Jackie Hendrick of Springfield; brother, Herbert Cockrell Jr. of Kincaid, Ill.; grandchildren, Tabitha, Krystal, Patrick, Alex, Destiny, Ronnie, Ashley and Logan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Chelsey, and a sister, Bernadine.
