GIRARD — Lyle Edward "Papa" Parsons, 82, of Girard, formerly of McCune, died at 11:25 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at the Girard Hospital in Girard.

He was born July 7, 1929, in McCune the son of Leslie Jay and Thelma Faye Streetmaker Parsons. He had lived most of his life in McCune, moving to Grove, Okla., in 1994. He had lived in Girard since 2008.

He married Nyda Charlene Page on March 4, 1950, in Miami, Okla. She survives at the home in Girard.

Mr. Parsons worked at the McCune Coop in propane sales for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He and his wife owned and operated Lyles Tavern in McCune from 1956 until 1976.

He had served on the McCune City Council, was a life member of the West Mineral Eagles Club and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Grove, Okla.

Other survivors include four sons, Roger Lyle Parsons and his wife, Jeanette, of Lee's Summit, Mo., Michael Dean Parsons and his wife, Terry, of McCune, Steven Dale Parsons and his wife, Julie, of Basehor and Dennis Jay Parsons and his wife, Lisa, of Girard; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Richard White of Parsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Betty White.

The service will be at 10 a.m. today at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, in Pittsburg with the Rev. Clair Uitts officiating. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the SEK Humane Society or the Alzheimer's Research Foundation. Memorials may be left or sent to the funeral home.
