B-24H #42-95240 'The Old Veteran'

The Old Veteran took off 24 March 1945 from the AAF Base No. 114 Hethel UK on a course of 60-70 degrees on an operational mission to Wesel, Germany. The weather report that day indicated no cloud cover, and one-half to one mile visibility in smoke. The eyewitness, 2nd Lt John O. Kellogg, a Co-Pilot on the left wing of this aircraft, stated, 'Right after target I saw aircraft 42-95420, which was flying off my right wing, nose down, crash, and then blow up. Tracers of small arms fire were seen to be fired into the belly of the aircraft. No chutes were seen, the aircraft was flying at approximately 300 feet. All nine airmen were killed in action.
