Emma Stephani was the daughter of John Johann Stephani (AKA Stephans) born in Germany and Nancy Lederer. She was born on 26 Jan 1857 in Chicago and died 10 Sep 1927 in same. She married Henry (Heinrich) Hautau (sometimes incorrectly written Hautan) in Chicago, on 24 Feb 1876, license #25552 in Vol. #96. (IL State Archives, Marriages.)

On the 1860 Ward 5, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois Census, dated July 3rd, in dwelling #810, on page no.106 (HeritageQuest), I found Liquor Dealers John Stephani, 34 and Jacob Stephani, 30; EMMA Stephani, 4; Bertha Stephani, 2 and Mary Preble, 18. John has $1,000 in real estate and $10,000 in personal property and Jacob has $3,000. in real estate and $10,000 in personal property. The children were born in "Chicago" and the rest were born in Prussia. It would appear the children's mother has passed away. On the same 1860 census, John Stephani's in laws claimed they had 2 young Stephani children: Emma, 2 and "Fanny," 1. I can only assume the in-laws shared them or watched them during the time their father was at work.

Emma does not have a gravestone on her plot. Her Illinois Death record confirms the above dates and states she was buried at Rosehill Cemetery, on 13 Sep 1927.

Two family photos on the right: have Llewellyn kin and most likely Emma Stephani Hautau's unidentified Stephani kin (see resemblance). 1st photo: Emma's son Alwin is at her feet, Alwin's wife is 2nd adult from top left, holding a baby. This appears to be a Stephani, Llewellyn and Hautau reunion. I estimate it was taken in ABOUT 1910. I believe it is Alwin's twin in the top right corner, cut off (seen in 2nd photo). 2nd photo: This photo captures the people in the rear, not shown in the other photo of this Stephani, Hautau, Llewellyn Reunion of ABOUT 1910. I SUSPECT Alwin's twin brother is in the top right corner and Gwen's sister is sitting on the right.
