On the 30th of Novemeber 1876, he was married to Sarah Nelson, who survives him, along with sons; Carl, Abner and John. He occupied several positions of trust during his residence in this county, serving on the board of school directors of his district for six years and as a member of the county commissioners two years. He was held in high esteem by neighbors and acquaintances, who regarded him as a man of high moral ideas, and industrious and courteous to all whom he met.
