CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Kenneth B. Holmes Jr., passed away on Aug. 26, 2009.

Kenneth was born on Sept. 21, 1931, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Kenneth and Hazel Holmes.

Kenneth Holmes was an admired businessman in the oil and gas industries and a lover of the arts. He was very generous to his friends, his family and the community.

He and his wife of 40 years, Dorothy (now deceased), were extensive travelers and collected various arts and items representing the different cultures from around the world. During his travels, he became an avid scuba diver and mastered underwater photography. They also were big supporters of local and Texas artists.

Throughout his life, he shared his personal collection of art within the Corpus Christi community with donations to the South Texas Art Museum, Del Mar College and Instituto de Cultura Hispanica.

After graduating from Corpus Christi High School, he joined the Army and was stationed in Farmington. He then attended and graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

Kenneth was a well known and respected member of the Gas Pipeline industry. He started in the gas business with Tennessee Gas Transmissions and moved to Corpus Christi to work for Coastal States Gas Producing Company. He later worked as an independent consultant for Jack Bleakley in San Angelo before moving back to Corpus Christi, where he started his own energy consulting business TEAMCO & PRO MAC. He co-founded numerous pipeline companies including, Esperanza Transmission Co., Gas Utilities Inc., K&R Construction Co., Texline Gas Co., Trans-State Gas Services Co. and Mid Coast Energy Resources. He retired from Mid Coast in 1999.

He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Jenkins, son-in-law Jay Jenkins, grandson, Noe C. Garza, great-grandchild Dominick Garza, brother-in-law, Dolen Bartos, and his brother, Tony Holmes.

During the past several years of his life, he was blessed to have had such wonderful caretakers. His family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Ida Mae Booker, Tercatsirlion "Cat" Bates, Crisella Bates, Santos Villanueva and Claire Geesee for their love, loyalty and dedication to Kenneth.

Visitation was held from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Seaside Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Instituto De Cultura Hispanica, 1617 N. Chaparral, Corpus Christi, Texas 78401, or Art Museum of South Texas, or the Gulf Coast Humane Society.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Smothers, Stevens G. Herbst, Josh Pederson, Matthew Holmes, Santos Villanueva and Noe C. Garza. Honorary pallbearer will be Jack Bleakley.
