Daniel Eugene Breland died at home Wednesday, August 26, 2009.

The funeral service for Mr. Breland is set for 11 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2009, at Wright and Ferguson High Street in Jackson, with visitation at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Leakesville, Mississippi.

Mr. Breland was born in Leakesville on August 3, 1913, to Daniel and Minnie Peaster Breland. After graduating from Leakesville High School, he attended Millsaps College and Cumberland University School of Law. In 1943, he received his law degree from Jackson School of Law, now Mississippi College School of Law.

Mr. Breland was engaged in the practice of law until he purchased Tillman Finance Company where he served as president and manager until his retirement in 1990.

Mr. Breland was a charter member of Riverside Methodist Church and served in various capacities in the ministries of the church. He was an avid Civil War buff and was a member of the Jackson Civil War Roundtable. He was also a member and past president of Mississippi Consumer Finance Association.

Survivors include: wife, Nancy; sons, Dan Breland, Jr. and James T. Breland and his wife, Virginia; grandson, Mark Breland; nephews, Judge L. Breland Hilburn, Lloyd E. Turner; and niece, Eleana Turner Pope.

Pallbearers will be Mark Breland, Judson Hilburn, John Holmes Hilburn, Nigel Turner, Hugh Allen Thompson, and William Pope.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to his faithful nurses Olivia Lighter, Doris Mack, Gracie Johnson, and Aretha Smith.
