Daniel Boone Carroll was born on February 21, 1852 in Little Fork, Carter County, Kentucky to John Carroll and Nancy Damron. He was one of ten children. On July 20, 1874, at the age of 22, he married Amanda Simmons in Elliott County, Kentucky. They settled on Everman Creek on a large piece of land and built a cabin. There they were blessed with 15 children: Margaret, William Hardy, Jacob, Robert Galbreth, John Elmer, Jennie Lynn, Daniel Boone Jr., Pink, Bessie Lee, Milton Green, Thomas Nolan, Willard James, Walter D., Herbert, and Inez. He died on August 31, 1927 at the age of 75. His grandson, Truman Fugate (Bessie Lee's son) was only 6 years old when he died. Before Truman died, he recalled how his uncle John (John Elmer) and his aunt Edna came to the funeral in a buggy. After the services, they loaded the casket onto a sled and took it up the hill to Carroll Cemetery. Truman believed that the cemetery was on Daniel's brother's property. When his grandmother, Amanda Simmons, died 8 years later, the same two mules that pulled Daniel's casket up the cemtery were there to do the same for Amanda.
