A retired policeman who was a member of a pioneer Knoxville family died yesterday at the Eastern State Hospital. Herbert Scott Mabry, Sr., would have been 85 on September 19, had been in ill health and receiving care at the hospital for the past two years. He was a member of the police department for 28 years and retired 10 years ago as a Sergeant.
Mr. Mabry was born at the old Mabry home place on Dandridge Avenue, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alexander Mabry. Mr. and Mrs. Mabry resided in the 100 year old house in which Mr. Mabry was born. Mrs. Mabry died seven years ago.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mann's Chapel. The Rev. C. P. Hardin will officiate and interment will be in the Old Gray Cemetery. Mr. Mabry was a member of the Church Street Methodist Church.
He is survived by five sons, H.S. Jr., Rogers, Charlton and Brooks Mabry, all of Knoxville, and Joe of Servia, Ind.; three daughters, Mrs. Lebow, Mrs. Jean Paul Jones of Chattanooga, and Mrs. Porter Claxton of Arlington, VA.; and a Knoxville sister and brother, Mrs. Rush Hazen and Churchwell Mabry.
