Ireby Stone Barrow was born March 13, 1828, in Bradley Township, in Jackson County, Illinois, the son of John Barrow and Mary Steele Barrow. He married Martha E. Brown (March 1, 1837-December 28, 1919), the daughter of Samuel Brown and Mary Ann Ireland, on February 5, 1857 (the book "A History of California" gives the marriage date February 4, 1854), in Jackson County, Illinois. They had fifteen children:

Family history says that Ireby and Martha moved to California in 1880 where he bought a ranch that became part of Los Angeles. There is a street named for the family. He is listed as registering to vote on 9-24-1890 in California. At that time he lived in Cahuenga, Los Angeles County, California.
