Vernon, July 17 - Mrs. Celia Barker died at her home here Sunday afternoon, July 13. She had been in poor health most of the time for the past five years, and three weeks ago suffered a slight stroke which resulted in her death. She has been a resident of Shiawassee County all her life, having been born in Bennington township, where she lived with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Purdy, until she was married to Charles Clark, July 2, 1860. To this union were born three [sic] daughters, Mrs. C.S. [Fannie] Reed of Durand, Miss Carrie Clark of this place [Vernon], and Ella May, who died at the age of three years. Mr. Clark died in April 1868.

On November 7, 1883, she was married to Seth Barker and moved to the farm home, one-half mile east of Vernon where she lived 11 years. They then moved to Vernon village where Mr. Barker died several years ago.

She was a member of the Congregation church and a consistent Christian. The funeral service was held at the home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. S.H. Berry officiating. Interment in Greenwood cemetery.
