Philadelphia Police Officer Quinlan died in his sleep inside the 22nd Districe police stationhouse at Park and Lehigh aves. He apprehended a suspect causing a disturbance sometime after midnight and then went to bed. He was found dead the next morning at 6:30 a.m. The Coroner determined that he died of over-exertion. Newspapers told of his outstanding performance as an officer and how both in February and September of 1898, suspects struck him over the head. He was survived by his wife and five little children at his 2661 Twenty-Eighth street residence. He was appointed to the police department on December 8, 1890 and was assigned to the 22nd District his entire police career. Prior to the police, he was a laborer living at 2561 Clarence (now Sergeant) street.
