Rev. William A. A. Fortner was the son of James and Elizabeth (Gifford) Fortner. He was the husband of Stella R. (Thomas) Fortner. They were married in 1897. Stella died February 28, 1958. He was a teacher at Carlton College, Farmington, Missouri in 1896. Rev. Fortner was a minister in the St. Louis Conference/Michigan Conference/North West Kansas Conference/Northern New York Cenference and Genesee (Western New York/now Upper New York) Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The Baptismal window at Olean (NY) Trinity United Methodist Church bears his name. The windows were imported from Germany. Rev. Fortner was instrumental in the building of this church.
