Pneumonia Takes Life of Son of Late United States Senator and

Brother of Colonel

Marion Francis Dolph, well-known attorney and clubman of Portland, and former noted football star, died early yesterday morning at the family home, 777 Madison street, following an attack of pneumonia. Mr. Dolph left his law office last Saturday suffering a severe cold which developed quickly into pneumonia.

He was the son of the late United States senator and Mrs. Joseph N. Dolph and for a time he was a member of the law firm of Dolph, Simon, Mallroy & Gearin. Late he established offices in the Mohawk building and continued the practice of law independently.

While a student of Williams college Mr. Dolph earned a name throughout the country as a football star. He made the team when he was but 16 years of age. After graduating from Williams he returned to Portland and for a number of seasons was a star on the Multnomah club team.

He completed his study of law at the University of Oregon law school. Prior to going to Williams college he took a preparatory course in the Portland academy.

Mr. Dolph was born in Portland July 7, 1879. He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Effie Houghton, and an infant daughter, Clarie; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Dolph Thornton of Los Angeles and Mrs. Richard Nixon, who is now en route to Europe; three brothers, Colonel Cyrus C. Dolph, U.S.A. retired, Cannes France; Henry V., San Diego and Chester V., an attorney in Portland.

Marion Dolph was a prominent member of the University, Arlington and Waverly clubs.

The funeral services, which are to be private, are to be held this morning at the family residence, Rev. H. L. Bowman of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be at Riverview cemetery.
