Musical Folk Figure. A Weybridge nursery school classmate of Julian Lennon, she is remembered as 'Lucy' of the 1967 Beatles' hit "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." One day in 1966 three-year-old Julian drew a picture of her and took it home to his parents; John Lennon, who was then at work on the album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," asked him what it was, and Julian responded, "That's Lucy in the sky with diamonds!" John took the name for a cut on the disc which became, and has remained, a mega-hit, though he always denied that the title and lyrics were a veiled reference to LSD. Indeed, John was to say that he drew the imagery from Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass." Lucy never particularly liked 'her' song and lost touch with Julian over the years. She lived in Surrey, married Ross Vodden in 1996, and was a skilled gardener; when Julian heard of her serious illness the two reconnected, with Julian sending flowers and vouchers for a garden supply store. Lucy died after having lupus for a number of years. "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" remains in print.
