Archibald was the third child and third son of William & Mary (McLuaghlan) Bachop. He bears the same first name as his paternal grandfather. He is one of the 10 charter members of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of West Barnet begun Sept. 10, 1851, and was elected one of two ruling elders that day. He was the first postmaster of West Barnet. He was a farmer, a miller and a merchant. He and his first wife with 2 very young daughters are on the 1850 Census. All 7 of his children, all daughters, are believed to have been born in Barnet, before moving to Newbury before the 1870 Census. (1850, 1870 Census, Wells "History of Barnet, Vermont" .)
