JOHNSON - Sammie B. Johnson, 65, a resident of Albuquerque since 1926, passed away Tuesday. She is survived by her husband, George S. Johnson of Albuquerque; one son, William H. Pickens and wife, Sandra of Davis, Calif.; one brother, Howard C. Bratton of Albuquerque; and two grandchildren, Rena and Bryan Pickens, both of Davis, Calif. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the University of New Mexico and received her B.A. in 1939 and her M.A. in 1948. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni and Delta Kappa Gamma. She worked with the Albuquerque Public Schools from 1951 until her retirement in 1980. She served as a principal at Eubank Elementary School from 1954 until 1975. In 1975, she became an assistant director of the East Area Elementary Schools and served in that capacity until her retirement. Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne, 1100 Coal SE, with Dr. Harry Vanderpool officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park. The family request no flowers. Donations may be made to the Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper NE, 87106, or to a charity of your choice.
