Mrs. Anna Roy Taken.

Heart Failure Intervenes During
Convalescence from Surgi-
gal Operations.

After passing through two critical surgical operations in a Bloomington hospital a month or more ago and being apparently on the high road to recovery, Mrs. Anna Roy passed away last Saturday morning at her home on West market street, heart failure having developed on Friday afternoon. Since her return home from the hospital about ten days before she appeared to be gaining steadily and on Wednesday of last week was able to leave the home in a wheeled chair in charge of the nurse. The attack which proved fatal came without warning and she was unconscious for a time, but was brought back to consciousness by treatment and remained so until the end at 7:30 Saturday morning, though no hope was given the family that the hand of death could be stayed any certain length of time.
The funeral was held in the M. E. church on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Thos. H. Tull conducting it. A considerable share of the large attendance was composed of former neighbors in the community west of town; Miss Beulah Tull sang the hymns to accompaniment by Miss Ruth Housman. The pall-bearers all cousins of the deceased were T. M. VanDeventer, G. N. McKinley, Grant Cardiff of Clinton, Ollie Cardiff of DeWitt, D. F. VanDeventer of Leroy and J. L. Arbogast of Bloomington. Misses Della Bland, Lucy Watson, Imogene and Rebecca Swigart bore the flowers, which were many and beautiful. Interment took place in the Camp Ground Cemetery.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Grant Cardiff and daughter, Miss Elmyne, of Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Cardiff of Leroy, J. L. Arbogast of Bloomington, Mrs. J. M. Bunting and Mrs. G. H. Deane of DeKalb and Noah Stivers of Clinton. Mrs. Bunting, who is a sister of the deceased and now the only survivor of the family, had been with Mrs. Roy during her illness and departed only a few days before the death. She was visiting at Wateska on her way home, when the telegram regarding Mrs. Roy's death reached her. She and Mrs. Deane arrived here Sunday afternoon.
Anna M. Arbogast was born July 17, 1851, on the Arbogast homestead, north of Parnell. She was the fourth child of Henry and Frances Arbogast, and she is survived by her sister, Mrs. Bunting, and a foster sister, Mrs. G. B. Shere of this city.
She was united in marriage to Robert J. Roy on February 25, 1869. To this union were born five children, of whom are now living W n. H., Mrs. Gertrude Creasey and Miss Ruth, all of this city. The two eldest daughters, Ilia and Shanna, preceded their parents in death the former in 1890 and the latter in 1892, at the home in Rutledge township.
Mrs. Roy spent her entire life in Rutledge township until the death of her husband in 1908, when she moved to Farmer City and located in the home which she occupied until the end. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church for over thirty years and also a member of the D of R. order.
