Author. Among his many works was the "Life of General George Gordon Meade", published in 1897. It is one of the oldest biographies of General Meade.

He was a great-great-grandson of Benjamin Franklin, and the nephew of General Meade. His father was Brevet Brigadier General Hartman Bache. His mother was Maria Meade Bache, older sister of General Meade.
