Frank Rybak November 3, 2004

Frank Rybak, 84, of Syracuse , passed away Wednesday at home. Born in Syracuse , he graduated from Central High School and was an estimator with Carrier Corporation for 42 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of American Legion Post 41 and a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Frank was the original organizer and cub master of Cub Scout Pack 58, Amboy. In his younger years, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He raised three golden retrievers, whom he dearly loved. In recent years Frank was active in various historical projects, including the rededication of the War Memorial and the Camillus Erie Canal Park and Museum. Frank was a decorated veteran paratrooper who served his country with pride in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team. He fought in Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. Frank fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He then served with the 508th Parachute Infantry, where he was assigned to the honor guard of General Dwight D. Eisenhower during the Allied occupation of Germany.

Survivors: his wife of 64 years, Emily Callahan; a daughter, Stephanie Rybak of Syracuse ; a beloved grandson, Colin Francis; two sisters, Helen (Alphonse) Myrdek of Camillus and Jane Eman of MI; a brother, Edward (Barbara) Rybak of Fairmount; a sister-in-law, Nellie Rybak of Syracuse ; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Alex and Andrew. His son, Lt. Francis P. Rybak, was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968.

Services: a funeral Mass will be said at the B. Latremore Room, Van Duyn Home and Hospital, 5075 W. Seneca Tnpk., on Monday at 11 a.m. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at Van Duyn. Arrangements entrusted to GIMINSKI-WYSOCKI FUNERAL HOME.
