Adam was the tenth of twelve children born to Johannes Nehs and Elisabetha Roush.
He was christened 24 Dec 1797 with Jacob Zirkel and his wife as sponsors.
Adam married Catherine "Caty" Bowers on 15 May 1818 in Greene County Tennessee. Another record shows marriage date as 20 May 1818.
Adam's will was made on 31 Oct 1868. The will listed these children: Sarah; Regina; Andrew; John N.; Adam jr; Reubin; Catharine; Thomas F.; Mary Ann and Barbara.
