Professional Basketball Player. He attended Roth High School in Dayton, Ohio and played collegiate basketball at Miami University (Ohio). For two seasons (1974 to 1976), he played at the guard position in the National Basketball Association with the Portland Trailblazers and Phoenix Suns. He was a member of the Suns' team that appeared in the 1975-1976 NBA Finals. On June 4th, 1976 the Suns played the Celtics in game five of the NBA Finals. In what many believe to be the greatest game in NBA history, the Celtics defeated the Suns 128-126 in triple overtime at Boston Garden. During that postseason, Lumpkin appeared in 17 games scoring 31 total points with 21 assists. In 82 career regular season NBA games, he scored 272 points with 225 assists before an injury cut short his playing career. He was chosen by Portland during the 2nd round of the 1974 NBA Draft. Lumpkin would later serve as longtime basketball coach at O'Dea High School in Seattle and guide his teams to five state titles.
