Purnell Pratt was an American character actor whose career began in silent pictures, but moved ahead in small roles on both sides of the moral fence, playing no-nonsense inspectors, judges or attorneys, and as crime bosses of 'crooked' politicos. He appeared in four Oscar 'Best Picture' nominees: 'Alibi' (1929), 'Five Star Final' (1931), 'Grand Hotel' (1932) and 'Blossoms in the Dust' (1941). 'Grand Hotel' won Best Picture.
