Dr. James Cogswell, died Nov. 22, 1792 in his 48th year.
He was a patriot member of Washington's staff; a philanthropist; one of the principal originators of the New York Dispensary system; of a society for the relief of distressed debtors; of the first African school in New York City; Mingled with his dust is that of an infant daughter of Robert W. and Harriet B. Mott, his grand-daughter.
