John was the son of John Barker and Elvira Adeline McDowell.

John was married on March 12, 1900 in Stone Co., Missouri to Bettie Essick. Their known children probably included May b.1901/02 MO, Loyd b.1903/04 MO, Robert b.1907/08 MO, George b.1909/10 MO, Johnny b.1912 d.1920, and possibly Maggie b.1911/12 MO.

John was remarried Bet.1912-1915 to Catharine "Kate-Katie" Unknown. She was apparently previously married to a Maxwell. (The 1920 census of John and Kate Barker lists Earl Maxwell stepson age 12 born AR).

Many thanks to Find A Grave contributor April Berg who supplied the following information on 1/12/14: His second wife was Catherine "Katie" Fitzmaurice. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri and her parents are Francis Fitzmaurice and Margaret "Maggie" Wade. She is my great grand aunt.
