Born 1836 in Alamance County, NC and died in 1864 in Chatham County, NC.

Daughter of Joseph F. and Mary (Teague) Stone.

2) Cornelia Rachel Sheridan; b) Feb 5, 1858 in Chatham County, NC; d) Jul 26, 1954 in San Diego, San Diego County, CA; married Levi Cook Hoover on June 22, 1912 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Elizabeth Della Sheridan; b) Sept 17, 1859 in NC; d) June 19, 1938 in Ramseur, Randolph County, NC; married Thomas Henry Ellis on October 31, 1877.
3) Martha "Mattie" Frances Sheridan; b) Aug 9, 1861 in Alamance County, NC; d) Mar 21, 1935 in Greensboro, Guilford County, NC; married William Russell Ashworth on October 3rd 1880 in Randolph County, NC.

Affia's tombstone was erected on her grave in 1902 by her daughter Della. It was found broken in two in 1959 by her great granddaughter Evelyn Williams Cox. Evelyn had the tombstone repaired that year. It was still standing in 1989 but found broken again in 2008. The full inscription said, Mother, Affia, wife of J.M. Sheridan, Died 1864 and left four little girls alone. Father killed on battlefield. Della."

According to family, Affia was a member of the Pleasant Hill Temperance Society, as was her mother, Mary (Teague) Stone.

After Affia died, her four daughters were split up among relatives and friends:

1) Mary Ellen Sheridan went to live with her Uncle Nicholas S. Stone (Affia's brother) who was married to Jane Glass. Nicholas and Jane raised Mary along with their own children. They lived in Chatham County, NC.
2) Rachel went to live with her Aunt Cornelia Rachel Stone (Rachel's namesake and Affia's sister) who married William Parker Fox. Cornelia and Parker raised her with their own children. They lived in NC for a time and then moved to Indiana sometime after the Civil War.
3) Della first went to live with her Aunt Elizabeth Della Stone (Della's namesake and Affia's sister) who was married to Dr. John Kirkman. Della lived with the Kirkman's until she was 12 yrs old. She then went to live with her cousin Phoebe Ann Stone and her husband Thomas J. Ellis. Phoebe's father, Capt. Nicholas S. Stone was Affia's older brother. Della always called her cousin Phoebe Ann Stone, Aunt Phoebe because she was much older. In reality she was her cousin not her aunt.
4) Mattie went to live with her Aunt Ann Helen Stone (Affia's sister) who was married to William Manley Coble. Helen and Manley raised Mattie along with their own children. They lived in Randolph County, NC near Asheboro.
