US Congressman, Memphis Mayor. Served as a General in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Elected to represent Florida's 1st and 2nd Districts in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1876 to 1877, 1879, and 1881 to 1882. Also served as a Member of the Arkansas State Senate in 1841, Mayor of Memphis, Tennessee, in 1845, Member of the Florida State Senate in 1850, Candidate for Presidential Elector from Florida in 1852, Circuit Judge from 1853 to 1861, and Confederate District Judge from 1861 to 1862.
