Oscar T. Hamlin, attorney at law, was born in Pickens county, S. C.,
August 5, 1866, and is the son of Rev. J. R. and Mary A. (King) Hamlin,
natives of North Carolina, the father born about 1826 and the mother
about 1828.  They removed from their native state to South Carolina
about 1856, and from there to Bourbon, Crawford county, Mo., in 1869,
where they now reside.  The father is a Baptist minister, and has
followed his ministerial duties for thirty years.  Oscar T. Hamlin is
the youngest living of nine children born to his parents.  He first
attended the public schools, and then spent two years at the Salem
Graded School, in Dent county.  Later he spent two years at the South-
west Baptist College, at Bolivar, Polk county, Mo., and in December,
1885, he began the study of law.  In March, 1887, he entered the law
office of his brother, at Bolivar, Mo., and October 18, 1887, was
admitted to the bar at that place.  He came to Marshfield, Mo., in
January, 1888, and here has since continued the practice of his pro-
fession, meeting with good success.  He is a Democrat in his political
opinions, and cast his first presidential vote for Grover Cleveland.
He is a member of the Baptist church, and is an honorable, upright
citizen.
