MRS. J. O. HARTZOG DIES AT PT. LAVACA; SERVICES ARE SET
Mrs. J. O. Hartzog, 70, mother of State Representative Howard Hartzog, died at her home three miles outside Port Lavaca Saturday morning following an illness of a month.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at Port Lavaca at 3 o'clock. Interment will be in the Port Lavaca Cemetery. Rev. J. W. Parten, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate.
Mrs. Hartzog was born May 26, 1861, at Athens, Texas. Her father was Major Howdy Martin, who served North Texas as congressman for many years. The late W. H. Crain of Victoria was in Congress at the same time, and he and Mr. Martin were close friends. Incidentally. Major Martin's name was mentioned in a story, "He Lost His Pig, But He Saved His Bacon", which appeared in the March 9 Saturday Evening Post.
Mrs. Hartzog and her husband, a retired insurance executive, were married December 25, 1897, at Greenville, Texas.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hartzog is survived by two sons, Howard G. and Carroll Hartzog of Port Lavaca; one brother, William H. Martin of Hillsboro; one sister, Mrs. Pattie Saunders of Athens, and two grandchildren.
