William Longsword (Longespée) was the illegitimate son of King Henry II and half brother of King Richard I and King John. (His mother is now believed to have been Ida Tosny). He bore the title of Earl of Salisbury during his lifetime. William Longsword (Longespée) married Ela Countess of Salisbury and the couple had 4 sons and 4 daughters. Wiiliam's death was on March 7, 1226 and his tomb was placed in Salisbury Cathedral. His tomb and effigy are extant today in the Cathedral.
