Born on Aug. 10, 1906, she was the youngest child of the late Governor W.W. Kitchin and Sue Musette Satterfield Kitchin of Roxboro and Scotland Neck. She attended St. Mary's College and Hollins College and graduated from Meredith College. Mrs. Dunn was active in the Methodist Church all of her life and served on the local, district, conference, and jurisdictional board levels and taught Sunday School for the better part of 70 years. For six years, she was Secretary of Missionary Education and Service, while also serving as Chairman of the School of Missions Summer Program at Duke University. Mrs. Dunn then served four years as President of the N.C. Conference of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She served on the Board of Directors of Wesleyan College and was elected three times as a delegate to the General Conference. She also served as President of the Church Women United in N.C., served on the Halifax County School Board of Education for 10 years and was the first woman to chair that board. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Dunn was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Arrington Dunn, and is survived by her daughters, Musette Dunn Steck of Greensboro and Marietta Dunn Wilson of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Enfield United Methodist Church, Enfield.
