Fred Waits was born near Oil City, Pennsylvania. He emigrated west in the early years with his parents, brothers and sisters to Illinois. From there they located in Frontier County, Nebraska in the fall of 1874 and most of his life was spent there.
In 1882 he was united in marriage to Carrie Roback of Howard, Nebraska. They were parents of Frank, Ted, Walter, Myrtle, Mayme and Ora.
During a part of his early pioneering he was employed as a ranch rider near Fort McPherson and surrounding country in the 1870's. After his marriage he farmed until the fall of 1906 when he moved his family to Farnam. In 1925 he moved to Lincoln where he passed away in 1932.
