Mae Elam Appleton, 85, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010, in an Abilene hospital. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2010, in First Baptist Church, Buffalo Gap, with the Reverend Steve Joiner officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Gap Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, at the funeral home.
Mae was born January 19, 1924, to Homer Price and Violet Gladys McCormick Elam in Roby. Mae lived in Abilene, Big Lake, Snyder and Sweetwater and moved to Buffalo Gap in 1957. From 1958 to 1983, she worked for Crum and Forester Insurance in Abilene and from 1983 until her death worked for John Korman Insurance Agency. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Buffalo Gap.
Survivors include one son, Price Appleton of Tuscola; two daughters, Judith Appleton Smith and husband Rickey of Arlington and Sue Appleton Mathews and husband Larry of Arlington; one sister, Jodie Aycock and husband Jack of Sweetwater; seven grandchildren, Shannon Taylor and husband Rob, Price Wayne Thomas and wife Michelle, Steven Hendrix and wife Carrie, Stephanie Hendrix, Stacy Hendrix, Brandi Appleton, and Christi Appleton; eleven great-grandchildren, Lindsay McKinney, Gregorey Price McKinney, Makayla Thomas, Natalie Thomas, Kolin Hendrix, Freedom Harcrow, Courtney Albertson, Lauren, Alexius, Jalen and Jathan; one nephew, Scott Aycock and wife Cyndi; numerous beloved cousins; and many, many friends.
