Horticulturist. He is remembered as the original host for the popular PBS television show "The Victory Garden" that debuted on April 16, 1975 with the focus on home gardening. Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, he was selected as the show's host because he had written numerous volumes to Time-Life's "Encyclopedia of Gardening." Additionally, he authored several gardening books, including "Crockett's Victory Garden" (1977), "Crockett's Indoor Garden" (1978), and Crockett's Flower Garden" (1981). In 1978, he was nominated for a daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Host or Hostess in a Talk, Service, or Variety Series. He died at the age of 63 while vacationing in Jamaica.
