DEATH CLAIMS MR. BRADFORD CROSS

Mr. Bradford Cross passed away at his home on Russell street at 5 O'clock Thursday morning. Mr. Cross suffereda heart attack about seven weeks ago and these attacks reoccurring increased in severity until it was belived Wednesday the end was approaching. While apparently in his usual strength, both physically and mentally, Mr. Cross intimated to his wife that he would not see the morning. While his heart attacks were severe he suffered no pain.
Mr. Cross was 85 years of age. born in Illinois August 8, 1849. His father was an Illinois farmer and a descendant of Govenor William Bradford of Plymouth Colony. Mr. Cross grew up as a farm boy. He later taught school, learned the stone cutter trade and conducted a monument business for himself. He was forced to give up this business on account of the dust. He accepted employment with a farming implement company at Decatur, Illinois and later with the John Deere Company of Moline. While here he invented a new type of plow and became a member of the firm.
He was Married to Orietta Clemmons in 1872. Three children were born, 2 daughters both of whom have passed away, and a son, Dr. Ira B. Cross of Berkeley. They came to California in 1915 to be with their son. That same year they moved to Winters. Mrs. Cross passed away in 1930 and Mr. Cross married Mrs. L. A. Van Kirk who survives him.
Funeral services will be held at the Nazarene Church, Rev. J.M. Gill officiating, assisted by Rev. Charles P. Barkman. Song service will be given by Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Gill.
Cremation will be in Oakland.
