Bert C. Banner, 82, died at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27th at Brokaw Hospital in Normal. He entered the hospital the previous Thursday.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday at the LeRoy Christian Church. Rev. Harold Baird of Champaign and the Rev. Hal Hudson officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Bruce Memorial Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Donald Whitehouse was organist with Mrs. Eva Burns, soloist. Casket bearers were Lyle Brining, Robert Brown, Merle Spratt, Ronald Camden, Delmar Banner and James Nailey.
He was born Feb. 14, 1885, near Gibson City, a son of Joshua and Mary Ellen Beeler Banner. He married Nora Sappington Jan. 6, 1909.
Surviving are his wife; seven daughters, Mrs. Irene Krause, Skokie; Mrs. Winifred Southard, Glenview; Mrs. Vera Korbas, Waukegan; Mrs. Mildred Williams, Northfield; Mrs. Iris Liebig, San Clemente, Calif; Mrs. Lelia Ferraro, Anaheim, Calif.; Mrs. Marcia Salbego, Nothbrook; a son, O. D. (Spud) Banner, LeRoy; a brother, Mert Banner, LeRoy; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Six brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
He was a member of the LeRoy Christian Church, the McLean County Farm Bureau, and a former member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He retired from farming 29 years ago and had done custom farming and trucking until several years ago.
