LONGTIME RESIDENT DIES AT HOME IN FRANKSTOWN
Samuel Rhodes, who died at his home in Frankstown on Tuesday morning, was born in Freedom township, Blair county, on July 1, 1845. He was the son of Samuel and Susan (Singer) Rhodes. His entire life was spent in his native county, mainly in farming. For some years he had farmed near the site of his late residence, until five years ago he suffered partial paralysis of the right side, since when he has lived a retired life.
In early life he was married to Susan Jane Baird of whom he was bereft by death in 1896. To this union eight children were born: Annie Cathrine (Moore), Bertha May (Miller), Harry Milton and William Blair, all deceased and Emmanuel of Juniata Springs, Robert of Johnstown, Perry F. of the Philippine islands and Mrs. Ella Jane Ellenberger of Bedford county who survive.
On June 12, 1902, he was again married, this time to Miss Jennie Woodcock of Frankstown who survives. he is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Barbara Weaver and Mrs. Susan Mitchell, both of Gaysport, and Mrs. Rachel Keller of Juniata.
He was a member of the Knights of the Golden Eagle of Duncansville. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and a consistent Christian gentleman. Though ill for many months, he had waited patiently for the final summons which came peacefully on Tuesday morning. Having passed his seventy-seventh milestone and weary of his journey, he approached the victorious end "As one who wraps the drapery of his couch about his and lies down to pleasant dreams."
The funeral service will be conducted in the Frankstown Methodist church, of which he was a member, on Friday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m., in charge of his pastor Rev. F.A. Lawson. Interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery, Altoona.
