US Army General. He enlisted in 1911, advanced to Corporal and completed Officer Candidate School in 1917. He served with the 2nd Division in World War I, and took part in the Aisne-Marne and Chateau-Thierry battles. Davis later commanded companies in New York, served as an Infantry School Instructor, carried out company command and staff assignments with the 15th Infantry in China, and was an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Ripon College and Boston University. Davis was a 1925 graduate of the Infantry Officer Course, and completed the Command and General Staff College (1933), Army War College (1936), and Army Industrial College (1937). In 1937 he graduated from Georgetown University. During World War II he was the Infantry School's Assistant Director of Training, Chief of Staff of X Corps and Third Army, Deputy Commander of the 28th Infantry Division, and Commander of the 6960th Reinforcement Depot. He retired in 1946, and his awards included the Silver Star (2), Legion of Merit (2), and Bronze Star (2). After retiring he resided in Freeport, Maine and was active in the Sons of the American Revolution and Society of Colonial Wars in America.
