Virgil Marion Cummins, 54, of Dearing, died Wednesday evening at Coffeyville Memorial Hospital, where he had been admitted December 29th. He worked as a welder before retiring in 1969 because of ill health.

Cummins was born September 20, 1910 at Raymondville, Missouri the son of Ballard Cummins and Jennie Weaver Marshall.

He moved to Dewey, Oklahoma in 1940 where he worked as a welder at the Dewey Portland Cement Company. He then moved to Coffeyville in 1966 from Carthage, Missouri. He moved to Dearing in 1970.

On October 15, 1952 he married Marie Sabra Mayfield Cessna at Dewey. She died November 12, 1972.

He was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II.

Survivors include four stepchildren - Leburn Bailey of Rt. 4, Armin E. Bailey of Independence, Elvin L. Bailey of Wann, and Mrs. Bill (Mildred) Forgey of Rt. 1; his mother, a resident at the Heritage Manor Convalescent Home at Bartlesville; three sisters - Mrs. R.L. (Nadine) Raeimeld at Dewey; Mrs. R.M. (Pearl) Clark of Summerville, Missouri; and Mrs. Thurman (Edith) Westerman of Houston, Missouri; three brothers - Ralph of Houston, Missouri; Joe Bob of Cushing, Oklahoma; and Lee Roy of St. Louis, Missouri; ten step grandchildren; 17 step great grandchildren; and one step great-great grandchild.

Services will be at 2 pm Saturday in the Ford Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
