Professional Basketball Player, Coach. For thirteen seasons (1947 to 1950, 1952 to 1962), he played at the guard and forward positions in the Basketball Association of America and National Basketball Association with the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics. Born Carl August Braun, he attended Garden City High School in New York and played collegiate basketball at Colgate University. He served two years in the United States Army before resuming his NBA career in 1952. Braun established himself as one of the league's top shooters during his years in the NBA, earning five consecutive All-Star statuses (1953 to 1957). He was part of a formidable Knicks' lineup which included Dick McGuire, Nathaniel Clifton and Harry Gallatin, who reached the 1953 NBA Finals (lost to the Minneapolis Lakers). Braun concluded his playing career as a member of the 1961-1962 NBA Champion Celtics' team. For two seasons (1959 to 1961), he served as a player-coach with the Knicks, compiling a 40 win 87 loss record. In 788 career regular season BAA and NBA games, he score 10,625 points (10,449 as a Knick) and recorded 2,892 assists. Following his basketball career, he became a Wall Street broker. At the time of his death, he remained one of the Knicks' all-time scoring leaders. He died from natural causes.
